What Discord's emoji picker still cannot type
Discord got shortcodes right before almost anyone, which is exactly why we stay silent there by default: two menus on one colon helps nobody. But Discord's menu knows emojis and server emotes, and that is all it knows. Kaomoji, symbols and your own snippets are still a copy-paste job. Flip one switch for discord.com in the popup and they become shortcodes too.
What that costs you today
Discord's autocomplete has no kaomoji: the table flip is a copy-paste trip
Symbols like → and the em dash are not in the picker at all
The same greeting gets typed by hand in every server, every day
The :joy: muscle memory Discord taught you dies on every other site
The same thirty seconds, twice
The raid wiped on the last boss, and the only correct response is a table flip.
With Discord alone
- 01 Search "table flip copy paste" in another tab
- 02 Dodge the ads, copy the kaomoji
- 03 Paste it into chat and hope the arms survived
Discord's own picker has no kaomoji to offer at all.
With Emoji Anywhere
- 01 Type :tableflip in the message box
- 02 Press Enter. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ arrives whole
No other tab, and the flip lands while it is still funny.
What you would type instead
:tableflip → (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ not in Discord's picker
:shrug → ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ arms intact, no other tab
:lenny → ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) you know what this is for
:: → your frequent emojis once enabled, here too
Try it here first. No install needed.
Where it works on Discord
- ✓ After one switch. Discord has its own :name: menu, so we stay quiet until you turn on discord.com in the popup. The setting sticks.
- ✓ Channels and DMs. Once enabled, the same message box everywhere takes kaomoji, symbols and custom codes.
- ✓ Alongside Discord's own menu. Server emotes and Nitro stay Discord's job; the extension only adds the characters Discord does not have.
Make it yours
:gg → GG, well played 🎮✨ The lines you type after every match, every raid, every stream are snippet material. Make :gg, :brb and :gn custom codes and stop typing them by hand in every server you are in.
Discord taught a generation to type :joy: instead of hunting a grid. The extension returns the favour with what Discord left out: kaomoji, symbols and snippets. And then it lets the habit leave the app.
Questions
Discord already has :shortcodes:. Why add this?
Discord's menu knows emojis and server emotes, and nothing else. It has no kaomoji, no symbols like → or the em dash, and no custom snippets. And it only exists on Discord: the same muscle memory does nothing on X or Gmail. The extension adds the missing characters on Discord and takes the whole habit everywhere else.
Why is it off on Discord by default?
Because Discord's own autocomplete opens on the same colon, and two menus fighting over one keystroke helps nobody. One checkbox for discord.com in the popup turns ours on; the setting sticks.
Will it interfere with server emotes or Nitro?
No. The extension inserts plain Unicode characters through the normal editing path and never touches Discord's own features. Emotes, stickers and Nitro behave exactly as before.
