For people who post

Type emojis on X without opening the picker

X's composer makes you stop, click the smiley, scroll a grid, then find your place in the sentence again. That is four actions to add one character, and you do it a dozen times a day.

Reply, quote and DM boxes all behave slightly differently

The same thirty seconds, twice

You are replying to a post that is taking off, and the reply needs a ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

  1. 01 Click the smiley icon under the compose box
  2. 02 Wait for the panel, which opens over your draft
  3. 03 Scroll or search the grid for fire

Custom shortcodes expand to any text, not just emoji. Make :gm your morning opener, or :cta the closing line of every launch thread. Define them once in the options page.

X's composer is built on Draft.js, which keeps its own private model of your text and fights anything that writes into it. Getting insertion right there took more work than the rest of the extension put together.

Questions

Does it clash with anything X already has?

No. X's web composer has no shortcode autocomplete, only the smiley button. The menu appears when you type a colon plus letters, and Escape dismisses it instantly if you wanted a plain colon.

Does it work in DMs and quote posts?

Yes. Posts, replies, quote posts and DMs all go through text fields the extension understands, including the Draft.js composer X uses for posts.

Is what I type sent anywhere?

No. Matching happens on your device against a local list, and the extension makes no network requests at all. You can watch the Network tab in DevTools while using it: nothing.
