For people who document
Emoji and symbols in Notion, typed not hunted
Notion has emoji for page icons, but inside a paragraph you are back to a picker. And the characters technical docs actually need (arrows, em dashes, ≈, ×) are not there at all. Emoji Anywhere types them all, right inside Notion: turn it on for notion.so in the popup once, and :arrow, :emdash and your own custom codes work in every block.
What that costs you today
Arrows and math symbols mean a trip to a character map
Copy-pasting symbols brings formatting along
The emoji picker interrupts a sentence mid-thought
Status callouts need the same three emojis all day
The same thirty seconds, twice
You are writing a spec, and the sentence needs a →.
The character-map detour
- 01 Open a symbol site in another tab, or hunt an old doc that has an arrow
- 02 Copy the character
- 03 Paste it into Notion, then fix the formatting the paste brought along
A round trip out of Notion for one character.
With Emoji Anywhere
- 01 Type :arrow where it goes
- 02 Press Enter. → lands as plain text
No tab switch, no formatting cleanup.
What you would type instead
:arrow → → in flows and specs
:check → ✓ plain, not a checkbox block
:approx → ≈ estimates
:warning → ⚠ callouts
Try it here first. No install needed.
Where it works on Notion
- ✓ Every text block. Paragraphs, headings, bullets, toggles and callouts.
- ✓ Comments. Page comments and discussions are normal fields.
- ✓ After one switch. Turn it on for notion.so in the popup once; the setting sticks.
Make it yours
:ontrack → 🟢 On track Status lines are the same five characters all sprint. Make :ontrack, :risk and :blocked custom codes and a status update costs one shortcode each.
The 276 symbols and kaomoji are the reason this page exists. Nobody wants to search "arrow symbol copy paste" for the fourth time in a week.
Questions
Do I need to set anything up for Notion?
One tick, once. Notion ships its own : menu for emoji, and two menus at the same time would help nobody, so the extension waits until you switch it on for notion.so in the popup. After that, every block understands :arrow, :emdash and the rest.
Will it interfere with slash commands?
No. / menus, @ mentions and Notion's own shortcuts are untouched. The extension only wakes on a colon followed by letters.
What can it type that Notion cannot?
276 symbols and kaomoji: arrows, real em and en dashes, ≈, °, ⌘, ± and friends, plus 1,906 emojis and any custom snippet you define. That is the whole reason it earns its place in Notion.
