Mu Micro symbol
Type :mu_micro: · Greek
What μ is for
The Greek letter mu, used for the micro prefix in µm and µs, and for a mean in statistics. There is a catch worth knowing: the micro prefix has its own separate character, and the two are not interchangeable to software even though they look identical.

What μ gets mistaken for
micro sign
A different codepoint that renders the same. This is what Option + M produces on a Mac, and what most micro measurements actually contain. Unicode prefers the Greek letter, but plenty of systems normalise between them.
