A solid square, used as a heavy bullet or an end-of-article mark: the tombstone that magazines set at the close of a piece. Also the classic "your font is missing this glyph" box, which is an accident of resemblance.
How to type ■

macOS
No direct shortcut. Use Edit → Emoji & Symbols, or switch to the Unicode Hex
