What Å is for
The angstrom, a tenth of a nanometre, used for atomic distances and wavelengths. Unicode says to write it with the Swedish letter Å rather than the separate angstrom character it keeps only for compatibility.
How to type Å
The shortcuts below are the built-in routes. With

installed you can skip all of them and type

macOS
No direct shortcut. Use Edit → Emoji & Symbols, or switch to the Unicode Hex
Input source and type 00C5 with Option

Windows
No Alt code. In Word, type 00C5 then press Alt +
X. Elsewhere use the emoji panel with Win + Period, or Character Map.
