What ♭ is for
The flat sign, lowering a pitch by a semitone. Written after the note name in text: B♭. Not a lowercase b, though it is typed as one constantly, and the difference is visible in any musical font.
How to type ♭
The shortcuts below are the built-in routes. With
Emoji Anywhere
installed you can skip all of them and type
:flat_note: in any text field instead, which
is the same on every platform.
macOS
No direct shortcut. Use Edit → Emoji & Symbols, or switch to the Unicode Hex Input
source and type 266D
with Option held.
Windows
No Alt code. In Word, type 266D then press Alt +
X. Elsewhere use the emoji panel with Win + Period, or Character Map.
