Unicode name Vulgar Fraction One Third · Number Forms block · added in Unicode 1.1, 1993
What ⅓ is for
A ready-made third. Unlike the half and the quarters it never made it into Latin-1, so there is no Alt code for it and it has to come from a picker or a shortcode.
