What ℝ is for
Blackboard bold R, the set of all real numbers. The doubled strokes come from lecturers thickening a letter with chalk to mean bold, and the printed character copies the chalk rather than the other way round.
How to type ℝ
The shortcuts below are the built-in routes. With

No direct shortcut. Use Edit → Emoji & Symbols, or switch to the Unicode Hex

What ℝ gets mistaken for
capital R
A plain letter. In maths it usually means a specific variable, so using it for the set of reals is genuinely ambiguous rather than just informal.
