Spade symbol
Type :spade: · Shapes & stars
Unicode name Black Spade Suit · Miscellaneous Symbols block · added in Unicode 1.1, 1993
What ♠ is for
The spade suit. Along with the other three suits it renders as plain text everywhere, which is why card notation in forums and chess-style diagrams still uses these rather than emoji.
