What ⊞ is for
A squared plus, which is the usual stand-in for the Windows key in written shortcuts, as in ⊞ Win + D. There is no Windows logo character in Unicode, and unlike Apple, Microsoft never put one in a private slot, so this is as close as text gets.
How to type ⊞
The shortcuts below are the built-in routes. With

installed you can skip all of them and type

is the same on every platform.
macOS
No direct shortcut. Use Edit → Emoji & Symbols, or switch to the Unicode Hex
Input source and type 229E with Option

Windows
No Alt code. In Word, type 229E then press Alt +
X. Elsewhere use the emoji panel with Win + Period, or Character Map.

What ⊞ gets mistaken for
circled plus
The same idea in a circle, used in maths for direct sums and exclusive or. It reads as a button rather than a window.
command key
The Mac counterpart. A shortcut written for both platforms usually pairs ⌘ with Ctrl, not with ⊞, since the Windows key rarely does what command does.
